Obituary for Sandra Sue Pederson
Sandra “Sandee” Sue Pederson passed away peacefully on a rainy Minneapolis morning, April 17, 2019 at age 69 surrounded by her family after a battle with Parkinson’s and Lewy Body Dementia. She filled the hearts of those around her with learning (through her role as a teacher), laughter (through her distinctive sense of humor and wit), and love (through her lasting relationships with friends and family).
Sandee was born March 7, 1950, the first of two children to Roland and Rose (Gab) Maier in Aberdeen, SD. She graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1968 and from Northern State University in 1972, after which she went back to the 4th grade, teaching for 36 years at Garfield, Grant, and Lincoln Elementary Schools before her retirement in 2008.
She was a star southpaw bowler, hit the high-notes in the church bell choir, fancied herself an amateur interior decorator, and was a connoisseur of Peanut M&Ms, BLTs, and one Diet Coke per day (no more, no less). In her own words when interviewed in March at the home where she lived in Minneapolis, she enjoyed “sunbathing and telling jokes and making people laugh.” She loved spending time with her friends unapologetically bragging about her kids; and most of all, she was a loving and devoted mother whose children were the world to her.
Sandee is survived by her children Brett Pederson and his wife Torre of Minneapolis, MN, and Jamie Robicheaux and her husband Derrick of Dallas, TX, and her sister Debbie Berman and her husband Greg of Atlanta, GA.
A memorial service in Sandee’s honor will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Watertown, SD.
Since she was always the first to suggest commemorating any occasion at Minerva’s, the service will be followed by a gathering at Minerva’s from 3:30pm to 6:00pm for Gin & Tonics and appetizers.
