Obituary for Daniel Lawrence Bendel

Daniel “Dan” Bendel, age 56, of Watertown, SD passed away Monday, June 10, 2019 at the Watertown hospital.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown. Pastor Jarod Jordon and Pastor Carl VanVoorst will officiate with Jack Lundquist on the bagpipes and special pre-recorded music.

Military honors by the VFW Frank H. Adams Post 750 and SD Army National Guard Funeral Honors Team.

Visitation will be from 5-8:00 p.m., Monday, June 17, 2019 at Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Fox, Richard Schultz, James Schultz, Bob Gross, Doug Paul, John Sperry and Dale Mack.

Honorary Pallbearers will be all of the grandchildren.

Daniel Lawrence Bendel was born December 25, 1962 in Madison, Minnesota to Alfred L. and Barbara (Hogan) Bendel. He lived in Canby, Minnesota until the age of nine when the family moved to Watertown, South Dakota. Dan attended school at Watertown High School until 1982.

He joined the United States Army and Army National Guard where he served his country and was honorably discharged.

Dan married Teresa Pletten on April 29, 2017 in Watertown. Dan was employed by Terex and then later as a welder at Macksteel in Watertown.

He enjoyed refurbishing guitars, playing music with his friends and riding his motorcycle with his wife by his side.

He was preceded in death his brother, Brian J. Bendel; step father, Robert Gerdes; his paternal grandparents, Alice and Henry Bendel; and maternal grandparents, Pearl and Frank Hogan.

Dan is survived by his loving wife, Teresa of Watertown; his children, Jennifer (Ian) Miller of Lisbon, ND and Blake (Kevin Burkhart) Bendel of Watertown, SD; his step-children, David (wife, “Jo”), Traci and Amy Wyman and Nicole (Juan) Rogue; his loving grandchildren, Jordan Schimmel, Mason, Austin and Quinton Mischke, Peyton Miller and Logan Burkhart; his step-grandchildren; his mother, Barb Gerdes of Watertown, SD; his father, Al Bendel of Marshall, MN; his siblings, Doug (Robbin) Bendel of Granite Falls, MN, Belinda (Mike) Jepsen of Aberdeen, SD, Jake (Jenn) Bendel of Las Vegas, NV, Chrissy (Donavon) Bensen of CO, Kendra (Caleb) Wildberger of AZ and Shelly (Tom) Versaerl of Marshall, MN; his mother-in-law, Charlotte Ritz; his many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; his ‘Honorary’ brother, Richard (Diane) Schultz; many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives.
